Platform and mobile application to provide information on public transport using a low-cost embedded device


Abstract:

This work presents the development of an urban public transport information system, to improve user mobility. The system contains an informative screen located in the stops where a bus makes its journey. It adds auditory messages, which promote the people inclusion with visual disabilities and the illiterate population. For greater interaction with passengers, a platform has been implemented where you can see the route to follow, timetables, weather and the predicted time until another bus unit reaches that stop. In addition, an intuitive application compatible with Android smartphones has been presented. For data processing, the Raspberry Pi 3 embedded board has been used as the central unit of the system. At the same time, a web server has been incorporated, which allows the processing of information and its storage in a database.
