Political rights and democratic principles in the context of distrust of the electoral system: The center of the debate


Abstract:

Political rights and democratic principles of electoral law, in the context of the existing distrust towards the institutions that make up democracy, which significantly erodes the legitimacy of its processes, putting in crisis the entire democratic system, the organs that compose it and therefore the State. These political rights and their importance make possible the proper functioning of a legitimate democratic system and are endorsed by different international instruments that guarantee fundamental human rights. These are constituted in moral representations that seek to create awareness in the operators of the institutions, adapting the rules to social realities. And it gathers the elements that combine to create a climate of distrust in the institutions that make up the electoral system.
