Políticas De Renovación Urbana Y Apropiación Del Espacio Público El Caso De La Calle La Ronda En El Centro Histórico De Quito
Abstract:
The present study is part of the research-action participation project in the historic center of Quito, of the line of work in community environmental psychology of the Psychosocial Research Group of the Psychology Department of the Salesian Polytechnic University. We emphasize the relevance of this research effort since it contributes to identify disciplines. We refer to think the relationship between urban policies and the forms of appropriation of the public space of centrality to generate a conceptual dialogue between political science and community environmental psychology. Both the political management of the territory and the forms of appropriation of urban space co-construct social subjectivities that give meaning to a historical place. This study contributes with empirical and critical knowledge about the necessary problematization of the processes of urban renewal in the historic center of Quito, which is based on the discourse of cultural heritage and the strengthening of identities. We succeed in sustaining the hypothesis that the implementation of urban renewal policies based on a hierarchical governance approach produces an exclusive and privatized type of appropriation of urban public space. We invite the reader to review this interesting study whose approach explores new perspectives of understanding politics, subjectivity and urban space.
