Post-surgical satisfaction of patients with microcrystalline arthropathies in the temporomandibular joint

Abstract:

The prevalence of disease associated with the temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) is not high, but this does not mean that it is a topic of little interest. Objective: to evaluate the postoperative satisfaction of patients with microcrystalline arthropathies in the temporomandibular joint. Method: descriptive, observational and non-experimental study performed at the Surgery Service in Hospital Móvil Nº 2 in Ecuador, between October 2016 and March 2017. A total of 4 surveys were applied in successive sections corresponding to the different postoperative stages. Results: of the total of 8 surgeries, the surgical interventions were: Complete excision of the crystal deposits to 6 patients (75%) and Partial prosthesis replacement of the joint to 2 patients (25%). In the first week, it was found that the satisfaction of the patients by the received attention and the experiences with the treatment, obtained an average of 84.5%. Regarding the communication with the doctor, the average value obtained turned out to be 86.60%. The level of satisfaction perceived in relation to the situations experienced with hospital staff, obtained an average value of 80.07%. Regarding the perceived satisfaction with the information received in their evolution as a patient, an average value of 84.45% was obtained. Discussion: Our study showed that interventions to improve the quality of care of these patients are necessary, based on empirical data on satisfaction with the perioperative process in general, doctor-patient communication, among others. Among the limitations or biases of the research can be indicated the responses mediated by the nature of the items collected in the instruments …
