Authors Affiliation: Department of Electric Power Engineering, Chalmers University of Technology, S-412 96 Gothenborg, Sweden Abstract: This letter presents a method to classify and quantify unbalanced voltage dips using symmetrical components. The classification results in the so-called “remaining complex voltage”(a generalized magnitude and phase angle shift) and a factor related to the rotating machine contribution to the source impedance. This chardcterization can assist in further development of standards for monitoring voltage dips and for the exchange of information between utility, customer, and equipment manufacturer.
