Abstract:
Volcanic seismicity can provide constraints on the nature and time scales of melt migration beneath active volcanoes. Seismicity can also be used to forecast increased volcanic activity. This is the case for Guagua Pichincha, a dacitic volcano located in the western cordillera of the Ecuadorian Andes, where seismic precursors helped to anticipate the volcanic events of 1998-1999.
