Presence of Enterobacterials in balanced Pet food
Abstract:
The objective of this study was to determine the presence of Enterobacterials in balanced foods (AB) for pets that are sold in bulk in the City of Cuenca, Ecuador. AB samples were taken from five commercial brands, which were sold in bulk in supply stores located in five food markets Feria Libre, August 10, October 9, April 12, November 3 and February 27 located in the Cuenca City-Ecuador, (n = 30 samples). The technique used for the quantification of Escherichia coli colonies was the plate count, and for the detection of Salmonella spp, the method based on selective and differential culture media was performed. Contamination with E. coli of 6.7 % and with Salmonella spp., of 36.7 % of the samples was found.
