Presencia de la porphyromonas gingivalis en pacientes con problemas cardiovasculares de edad adulta
Abstract:
Periodontal infection comprises an inflammatory process and can play a contributing role in the development of serious systemic diseases, among which cardiovascular diseases stand out; which has been established in different clinical studies carried out, but there may be numerous risk factors such as age, tobacco consumption, hypercholesterolemia and socioeconomic level, among others, are common to both pathologies and therefore can be a factor predisposing. In the periodontal pocket there are a large number of gram-negative bacteria that come into contact with the underlying tissue and with the periodontal blood vessels, among them is Porphyromona gingivalis, which is a microbiological anaerobic gram-negative that has fimbriae on its surface that allow it to adhere and invade the epithelial and endothelial cells, multiplying within them, evading the immune response, altering their normal function, promoting the formation of foam cells and the accumulation of cholesterol in the arterial intima layer, which favors arteriosclerosis and thrombosis, which can produce a coronary heart disease. The main objective of this bibliographic review is to carry out an analysis of the available and current scientific evidence that supports the mechanisms described above. An exploratory and documentary research design was carried out by collecting studies such as Scielo, Science Direct, Google scholar, Researchgate, PubMed and Dianet. It was concluded that it is very important to perform the scaling and root planing treatment to avoid bacterial accumulation, in order to promote health, good oral hygiene contributes to a healthy lifestyle and, therefore, could, at least partially, help in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
