Prevalence and associated factors of sleep disturbances in diabetic patients at the basic hospital of paute, Ecuador
Abstract:
Introduction: type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) has been associated with sleep disorders through different mechanisms, when both pathologies match in an individual they enhance each other. Objective: determination of the prevalence and associated factors of sleep disorders in diabetic patients in the Basic Hospital of Paute; March-October 2019 Methodology: analytical and cross-sectional study. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and a personal history questionnaire form were applied to 244 patients with DM2 who attended the Internal Medicine consultation in the March-October 2019 period, selected with calculation of the sample by formula and from the established inclusion and exclusion criteria, the analysis of the evaluation of the data was carried out through the statistical program SPSS in its 15 version. Results: the frequency of poor sleep quality was 84.0%, in the same way the most affected dimensions were sleep disturbances and its latency, the associated factors were considered to be 65 years of age or older (OR) = 2,022, have 5 years or more of diagnoses with diabetes OR = 3,379, malnutrition OR = 2,851, hypertension OR = 3,384, taking antihypertensives OR = 3,318, cardiovascular disease OR = 8,928, in the same way when analyzing the dimensions of the sleep, it could be observed a relationship between these alterations and the use of insulin, nonuse of hypoglycemic agents, anemia, chronic lung disease and psychiatric disorders p <0.05. Conclusions: sleep disorders exceed 50% frequency in diabetic patients with multiple associated factors.
