Prevalence and factors associated to the polycistic ovary in adults of the urban parishes of the city of Cuenca-Ecuador, 2017
Abstract:
Background: Polycystic ovarian syndrome is associated with an increase in subfertility and abnormal pregnancies. Objective: To determine the factors associated to polycystic ovary in adult women of the urban parishes of the Cuenca-Ecuador canton, 2017 period. Methodology: Analytical, descriptive-transversal study. The sample size calculation was made for a population of 153,628 women between 20 – 69 years of age (INEC, 2010); 95% confidence level; margin of error: 5%; proportion: 18%; the calculation was equal to 226 users, it was considered 10% of losses, for which the sample considered was 248 participants. The results were analyzed in SPSS program version 15 and presented in tables with absolute and relative values; The association of variables was determined with the Chi square value (p <0.05) OR and 95% CI. Results: The prevalence of polycystic ovary was 13.3% (n° 33). The average age, 36 years (DS 16); the most representative group were the <40 years (n° 136); of unmarried civil status (No. 93); of occupation QQDD (n° 87); with overweight BMI (No. 144). Only one factor was considered statistically significant and it was the increase in the estrogen concentration OR 1.4, 95% CI 2.8-55.6, p value = 0.000. Conclusions: The increase in the concentration of estrogens was presented as a factor associated with polycystic ovarian cancer.
