Prevalence of Brucella melitensis in goats from the ASOCAPRINOR herds found in the Ibarra Canton, province of Imbabura

Abstract:

In the present investigation, the prevalence of Brucella melitensis was determined in goats from the ASOCARPINOR herds found in the province of Imbabura taking into account the herds of the localities of San Guillermo, Urcuquí and Chaltura, sampling a total of 139 animals. Serological tests of Bengal Rose and Indirect Multispecies ELISA were used for blood serum samples, yielding a prevalence of 0%, since 2 cases of Bengal Rose were discarded by Indirect Multispecies ELISA. Indirect ELISA in Milk was used for whey samples, and in this case the study showed a prevalence of 1.2%, confirming the presence of the bacterium in the herds investigated. When studying the variables age, race and presence of abortions as risk factors for positive cases, they were not statistically significant.
