Prevalence of Sarcopenia in community-dwelling older adults of Guayaquil
Abstract:
Methods: Observational, descriptive study conducted in Guayaquil, Ecuador, between February-November 2019. Data were from 230 community-dwelling men and women aged≥ 65 years. Inclusion criteria: Older adults over 65 who signed an informed participation consent. Exclusion criteria: individuals with physical and/o functional disabilities, lack of mobilization autonomously, or makes anthropometric measurement difficult. Sarcopenia was determined using the EWGSOP 2 algorithm. Sarcopenia diagnosis was assessed measuring handgrip-strength, physical function using the Short Physical Performance Battery Test (SPPB), and appendicular skeletal muscle mass was measured by bioimpedance analysis.
