Prevalence of left ventricular diastolic dysfunction in patients of Cardiology. Hospital Homero Castanier Crespo

Abstract:

Introduction: arterial hypertension (HBP) has a high prevalence worldwide and is positioned as the main risk factor for the development of cardiovascular diseases, the patient with hypertension undergoes changes in the structure and cardiac functionality that should be evaluated as it is take into account to determine changes in treatment. One of the conditions most frequently observed in these patients is diastolic dysfunction of the left ventricle, for which this analysis was performed to determine its prevalence and associated factors. Methodology: it was an observational, analytical and cross-sectional study that was carried out through the collection of echocardiographic data of 179 patients who attended the cardiology clinic of the Hospital “Homero Castanier Crespo”, in the city of Azogues. province of Cañar in Ecuador, during the month of October 2018, the variables were evaluated through the statistical program SPSS in its version 20, the chi-square test was used to determine the association between the variables, accepting statistical significance when the p < 0.05. Results: the population consisted of 57% women and 43% men, the predominant age group was those over 65 years with 65.9% of cases, of which 100% had a history of hypertension, 60, 9% had less than 10 years with the diagnosis, the prevalence of diastolic dysfunction was 83.8% and was found associated with the age group older than 65 years old and the altered relaxation pattern. Conclusion: the prevalence of diastolic dysfunction of the left ventricle was high in the study population, which is why it is recommended to perform echocardiographic studies of routine control in patients with hypertension.
