Prevalencia de accidentes en la infancia y factores asociados en el área de emergencia del Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso 2017


Abstract:

Introduction: the accidental injuries are a Public Health´s important heath problem. The accidents are commonly presented in two stages of life: childhood and old age. The accidents represents an important cause of morbidity and mortality at any age. Objectives: To determine the prevalence of accidents during childhood and its associated factors at the Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso. Cuenca 2017. Materials and methods: It is a prevalence observational study and analytical study. The universe were the patients attended at the emergency area of the Hospital, the sample is formed by 207 with a confidence level of 95% and an error range of 5%. The information was collected on forms, and data was processed using Microsoft Excel 2010, Epi info 7 and Epi Data 3.1. Statistical variables were used: Prevalence, Chi square to determine the association between variables and odds ratio with a 95% confidence interval. Results: the prevalence of accidents in children is 39.61%. The most affected group were the kids between the age of 120 to 191 months (42.58%), the group of prevalence was males (54.88%) and from urban areas (53.65%). As for accidents, the most frequent type was traffic accidents (39.02%) and the most common place of the accident where the street (41.46 %), role of tutor in charge, mother (70.73%). The statistically significant factors associated with the occurrence of accidents are the age of the child (p <0.05) and the guardian that were not the parents (p 0.07). Conclusions: the prevalence of accidents in children is high, therefore, it is a public health problem. The factors associated are the age of the child and the parents were not the guardian
