Prevalencia de depresión en adultos mayores de los asilos de los cantones Azogues, Cañar, Tambo y Déleg de la provincia del Cañar, en el año 2011


Abstract:

Objective: Determine the Prevalence of Depression in Older Adults, Nursing Home Townships Azogues, Cañar, Tambo and Déleg of the Province of Cañar (Rosa Elvira De León, Fundación de Protección al Anciano, Casa de Reposo Padre Nello Storoni and San Bartolomé). Background: Depression in older adults has high prevalence and a negative impact on quality of life, show less profit, more anxiety and somatic complaints that young people with the same pathology. The prognosis is generally poor, as this disorder presents in them greater relapse rate and higher overall mortality in people of other ages. The prevalence is even higher in hospitalized and nursing home residents. Methods: A descriptive study in 84 elderly nursing home residents. Test was used validated Yesavage, statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 15.0 and Excel. Conclusions: Yesavage questionnaire was applied to 84 elderly residents in nursing homes, 70% of seniors scored higher than 4, which according to this scale corresponds to depression, the remaining 30% scored at or below 4 that corresponds to normal. Of the 33 men to the test was applied to the 69.70% have depression, and 51 women 70.59% have depression. The Asylum, which has more cases of depression, is the Asylum Rosa Elvira de Leon, with 20 cases representing 33.90%. The age range that has more cases of depression for both male and for female, is between the 80 - 89 years, representing 47.83% for males and 36.11% for women
