Prevalencia de discopatía degenerativa lumbar diagnosticadas por resonancia magnética en pacientes del Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga, Cuenca. Enero - diciembre 2011

Abstract:

Objective: The objective is to determine the prevalence of the degenerative lumbar disease, diagnosed by magnetic resonance in patients of the Hospital “José Carrasco Arteaga”. January - December, 2011. Methods and Material: It was realized a retrospective transversal study, to patients who went to the hospital “José Carrasco Arteaga”, to realized the lumbar spine Magnetic Resonance exam in during the period between January to December of 2011. It was worked with a universe of 864 patients, the pattern was propositional and it was referred to whole universe. Results: According to the analysis of the data, according to the radiological report, it was observed that 789 patients ,who represents 91,3 %, shows a Lumbar Degenerative disc disease, being 51,2% men and 48,8% women. The 5.8% was reported as a normal research. The average age was 50 years old. In relation to the BMI, of the 422 female patients, states that 51,5% has a normal BMI, 40,6% overweight. Of the 442 of male patients, states that 46, 6% has a normal BMI, 47, 5% has overweight. According to the patients with pathology, it was possible to observe according to herniated material, amount 77% presents protrusion. The most common location on a vertebra was Posterior with 74.52%. The lumbar space more affected was L4-L5 y L5-S1, with 28,9% Conclusion: At the end of this research we can determine the prevalence of Lumbar Degenerative disc disease, which is high, and its diagnosis was possible thanks to the examination of magnetic resonance imaging.
