Prevalencia de labio fisurado y paladar hendido en pacientes pediátricos de 0-14 años de edad, del Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga IESS, periodo 2015-2017
Abstract:
a) Objective: The objective of this study is to determine the prevalence of cleft lip and cleft palate in pediatric patients from 0 to 14 years of age in the Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga in a period between 2015 and 2017. b) Methods and Materials: The present observational cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out through the review of clinical records of pediatric patients from 0 to 14 years of age, from the Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga, in the outpatient area. The number of clinical records of pediatric patients that were reviewed for the investigation was 28,016 that represents the total of the universe; Those who presented the pathology were analyzed, using a data collection form developed by the research team. The data obtained were subjected to a statistical analysis through the computer program IBM SPSS Statistics version 20 (IBM Corporation, Armonk, NY, USA). The qualitative variables will be expressed in number and percentage and the results will be exposed by graphs and tables. c) Results: The prevalence of cleft lip and cleft palate is 0.06% in pediatric patients, which differs from results of previous studies at the local level; however, in comparison with similar studies carried out in other countries within Latin America, this result presents a great approximation to the prevalence results of the other studies.
