Prevalencia de parásitos gastrointestinales en terneros de las parroquias de las parroquias del cantón Gualaceo

Abstract:

This research has been made with the objective to determine the prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites on calves (baby cows) in the townships of Gualaceo, Azuay, Ecuador. During the process of this investigation, we implemented a serial stool examination every fifteen days under the following three methods of laboratory: Direct Smear, Flotation with Saturated Salinity Solution, and Spontaneous Sedimentation or Lutz. We collected two hundred and fifth teen (215) stool samples. These samples were only taken from baby cows no matter the sex female or male and put all together in separate ranges of age as follow: ≤ 4 moths and ≥ 4 months but ≤ 8 months. All the stool tests have been made in the clinical laboratory of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences under the methods aforementioned. However, we considered some variables like origin, age, sex, and infestation level. The results obtained in the entire stool test give us a higher prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites eggs corresponded to Eimeria Bovis and Bunostomum spp. Eimeria Bovis excided with 69,46% using the Direct Smear Method, 60,16% by Flotation and 80,78% by Sedimentation. According to the levels of infestation, we got Eimeria Bovis by Direct Smear a 3% moderate, Flotation 3% moderate and an 11% moderate of Sedimentation. A 1% of the whole investigation was severe being the most represented. According to the data of Friedman, it results that statistically has no significance between their variables. This means that the effectiveness is equal to all calves in this study. For all the laboratory tests, we can say that any of the three methods can give us results to find parasite eggs.
