Prevalencia de trauma encéfalo craneal en niños de 0 a 5 años y factores asociados, en el servicio de emergencia pediátrica del HVCM febrero- julio 2014
Abstract:
BACKGROUND Traumatic brain injury (TBI), is the main cause of attention at Pediatric Emergency services of the country and the world. Represents an increase in morbidity, complications, and death in Pediatric services. OBJECTIVES To determine TBI prevalence and associated factors among children from 0 to 5 years old, who attended to Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital Pediatric Emergency service, between February to July, 2014. METHODOLOGY A cross – sectional study in children from 0 to 5 years old who attended to Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital’s Pediatric Emergency service, between February to July 2014 was performed, determining TBI prevalence and associated factors, previously an informed consent was signed and approved by the children’s representatives. Data was collected and then tabulated with SPSS 20 version program, obtaining the study demographic variables. RESULTS 1681 children were included with a mean age of 26,2 months ( 20.76 SD). TBI prevalence was 10.4%. Mild BTI represented 8.6% of children. Children under a third person supervision or without supervision were positively associated (PR: 3,91; CI: 2,94-5,20 ), children who belonged to a minority group as indigenous and black race were positively associated (PR: 3,64; CI: 2,46-5,39), child abuse had the strongest association with TBI (PR: 6,11; CI: 3,61-10,65). CONCLUSIONS TBI prevalence in Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital in children from 0 to 5 years old was 10,4%. It was positively associated with minority groups as indigenous and black race, children who were under a third person supervision or without supervision, and the group of child abuse.
