Prevalencia y factores asociados al consumo de drogas en los/las adolescentes de los colegios nocturnos de la ciudad de Cuenca, 2009
Abstract:
Objective. To determine the prevalence and factors associated with the use of illicit drugs in night schools of the city of Cuenca during school year in 2008-2009. Materials and methods. Cross sectional study which included 120 adolescents of both sexes to whom an interview form was applied in order to gather information about self-esteem, people who rely on, school performance, perception of the future, being part of social groups, working conditions, domestic violence, conflictive relationship between parents, drugs consuming by family members and ways of getting drugs. PR (Prevalence Rate) with a 95% CI was calculated to establish the association. Results. The included population was represented by young people from 12 to 20 years old with an average age of 15.3 ± 2.2 years. The low achievement [MOP 1.7 (95%: 1.27-2.3)], non-membership in a social group [PR 1.56 (95%: 1.17-2.1)] and the use of legal drugs by other members of the family [PR 5.2 (95%: 2.08-13.0)] were significantly associated factors. Domestic violence [PR 1.24 (95%: 0.92 - 1.7)] also shows association but not significant. Discussion. The factors identified in the literature as determinants of drug in adolescence and youth, in our study Association was not found. It could be due the instrument that previously validated for larger studies collects information from more than 100 variables. Key words.
