Prevalencia y factores de riesgo asociado a conducta agresiva en niños/as de 49 escuelas rurales, Cuenca 2011


Abstract:

OBJECTIVE: To identify prevalence and risk factors associated with 5th, 6th, and 7th basic education years children’s aggressive behavior in 49 Cuenca rural schools during 2011. METHOD: A Cross transversal descriptive method was used on 618 students; we developed a test to collect personal data, social and risk factors. We applied the family APGAR test formula included in the interview and with the legal permission of the people involved in the test. For tabulation and statistical analysis, we elaborated frequency and contingency charts for strength in the association between aggressiveness and risk factors. RESULTS: The population showed moderate- severe aggressiveness in 24.1%, it was mostly presented in children between 11 to 12 years, and it had an aggression- increase according to their ages. In married-parents’ families, there was 21.2% moderately aggressiveness and severe aggressiveness 1.2%. In the families where the father was the one who emigrated 15.7%, their children showed 22.7% moderate- aggressiveness on those cases, severe aggression occurred in families with no migration members in 1.2%. By associating aggressiveness, dysfunctional family happened: moderately dysfunctional families present in 21.2% moderately aggressiveness, severely dysfunctional families showed moderate aggressiveness in 50% on those cases. When students watch television from one to two hours of television, the consequence shows 12,8% of moderate aggressiveness and it showed 6,17 severe aggressiveness when they watch from five to six hours for day. CONCLUSIONS: The most important risk factors associated with aggression were family function and the time that they dedicated to watch television programs.
