Análisis del cambio de producción de caña de azúcar a una producción orgánica y propuesta de Guía de Trabajo
Abstract:
Organic agricultural production, organic sugar cane, organic matter, compost, organic crops, changes in the production process, soil, seed, pesticides, environment, ecosystem, healthy products. Growing organic sugarcane has a beneficial impact to the environment, which can be identified by its healthy produce and Eco-friendly farming techniques. This approach avoids the use of chemicals and pesticides harmful to the ecosystem. At the moment, there is little knowledge on how to grow this kind of organic crop in Ecuador. However, there is theoretical basis, case studies and technical reports that support the application of organic production process from other countries. When a traditional production process is conducted, the ecosystem is heavily impacted, and unable to reach a healthy and healthful environment. Changes to traditional farming procedures and organic agricultural techniques are priorities if we want to achieve environmental conservation, hence passing on a legacy of cultivation techniques for future generations. Given the lack of policies to promote change in the farmers’ mindset to grow organic sugar cane, it is imperative to contribute with effective guidelines to support them regardless of their legal association. In order to reach this objective, the present study analyzed a step-wise procedure to switch from traditional to organic agricultural production.
