Abstract:
Education for health has among its purposes, make citizens appropriate knowledge about measures to maintain individual and collective health. Avoiding to a certain extent, the appearance and propagation of diseases. Aware of the importance of the knowledge of the population on the way of transmission of a disease, to apply effective preventive measures, it was proposed to investigate the previous knowledge on the transmission and prevention of contagious diseases in indigenous students of General Media Education, as well as comparing this knowledge among students from rural and urban areas. Methodologically, it is a descriptive research, field, not experimental. To collect the data, was designed a knowledge test that was applied to 415 indigenous students. Among the conclusions it is highlighted that although there are hits in both contexts, in most cases, students do not know how are transmitted many of these diseases, and in relation to the preventive measures selected by the children, these correspond to both measures effective and ineffective. It is recommended to design an educational intervention plan, starting with the most common diseases in each context.
