Abstract:
To the Editor: The motto of 20th-century medicine might well be, “Don't look back.” The obviously considerable talent, energy and financial resources employed by Gregory et al. (N Engl J Med 284:1333–1340, 1971) to rescue a neonate with a birth weight of 930 g on a planet that is rapidly being crushed by its number of human inhabitants seems almost criminal. The day is not far off when Jenner (for Dr. Nelson), like Custer, may not sport hero's garlands.
