Probabilistic Assessment of Underground Railway Systems Impact over Distribution Grids

Abstract:

This paper presents a methodological proposal to assess the effects of underground systems' mobile loads (electric trains) over distribution networks. This proposal, based on Monte Carlo simulation, allows generating random operation scenarios for mass electric transportation systems considering movement, energy consumption, and operating conditions for electric trains. In the same way, contingency events, according to N-1 security criterion on power and traction stations, are considered. This method evaluates probabilistic power flows using probability density functions (PDFs). Moreover, risk indexes are computed to measure the minimum or maximum expected values for equipment loadability and voltage profiles, considering a defined level of confidence. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is tested on the future first Ecuadorian subway system in Quito. 1
