Abstract:

Covers the cruise of Joides Resolution from the Port of Townsville, Queensland to Suva, Fiji, Sites 827-833. The main aims of the Leg were to study the style of deformation, the tectonic evolution and forearc dewatering of the New Hebrides Island Arc (NHIA). A general introduction is followed by three papers (abstracted separately) which broadly overview: the d'Entrecasteaux Zone-NHIA collision zone; Quaternary vertical tectonics of the central NHIA; and submersible observations of the collision zone. Information on the underway geophysics and explanatory notes are then given before the Site chapters, summary and conclusions, and core descriptions are presented. -S.J.Stone
