Production and quality of milk from Nubian-cross goats given different forage: concentrate rations.

Abstract:

A total of 12× Nubian× goats fitted with rumen cannulae were given lucerne hay: sorghum rations at either 80: 20 (1), 70: 30 (2), 60: 40 (3) or 50: 50 (4), from day 70 post partum for an experimental period of 21 days. Goats were milked twice daily. Daily milk yields and milk fat content were 1.1, 1.1, 1.3, 1.2 litres, and 4.51, 4.17, 4.35 and 4.48% respectively for groups, 1, 2, 3 and 4. Treatment effects were not significant.
