Production of polypropylene packaging in injection molding with cold and hot runners
Abstract:
Sustainability depends on the optimization of resources before, during, and after their use. As the population increases, this has a direct impact on the consumption of packaged food, and therefore, on the demand for petrochemical materials such as polypropylene (PP), which is the most widely used synthetic polymer in the world to manufacture food packaging by injection processes. Therefore, the present research aims to compare different technologies for the manufacture of packaging by the injection method using PP, to determine the best alternative for the optimization of resources and thus contribute to sustainability. The research was carried out by evaluating the weight and thickness of the manufactured containers and additionally the productive cycle of both injection systems with molds that include hot runner and cold runner, where the system with hot runner presented better results, decreasing 24% in weight, 55% in thickness and 73% of the productive cycle, which shows optimization of resources during the manufacture of plastic containers by injection processes with hot runner molds.
