Productive behavior of three forage shrub species in the experimental unit "La Maria", Quevedo, Ecuador

Abstract:

This research was conducted in the experimental unit of La María, which belongs to the Technical University de Quevedo with the objective to evaluate the performance of three forage shrub species (Morus alba L., Hibiscus rosasinensis L. and Erythrina poeppigiana Walp). Established experimental plots of 7 x 9 (63 m2), with 36 plants to a meter and a half between plant and plant and two between plots under a completely randomized design with six replications were assessed and morphometric variables (height, number of leaves by stalks and number of stems) every 30 days for 180 days, as well as production of biomass and bromatological analysis. The dynamics of growth in height for the period evaluated was similar to H. rosa-sinensis and E. poeppigiana with quadratic equations of the second order. The species E. poeppigiana showed better behavior in relation to the number of leaves per stem, production of green foliage and dry matter, which indicates a species highly producer of biomass. Bromatologic analysis results indicated that all three species showed high forage potential, because of its high nutritional value, although E. poeppigiana presented the highest values with significant differences.
