Productive performance of fattening pigs with the inclusion of viscera meal in poultry feed under conditions of the Amazon region
Abstract:
The aim of this study was to evaluate the inclusion of chicken viscera meal at 0, 10, 20 and 30% levels in the feed of fattening pigs and its influence on productive behavior. Thirty-six animals of 91 days of age, with a live weight of 60 kg of the commercial cross Landrace x Duroc Jersey, divided into 4 homogeneous groups, were used. They were evaluated for 45 days and the following were determined: live weight, weight gain, feed conversion, carcass weight, carcass length and back fat. In addition, the gastrointestinal tract, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, cecum and liver of the pigs were weighed and measured. The animals were distributed under a completely randomized design. Significant differences were found for all the variables under study with the exception of carcass length; with the best results in the group with 30% of chicken viscera meal inclusion, reaching a live weight of 106.96 kg, with daily gains of 1.05 kg day-1 and a feed conversion of 2.38; revealing a higher weight of the gastrointestinal tract and accessory organs. Under the conditions of this study, the use of chicken viscera meal up to 30% in the inclusion of the diet is feasible, since it presents a superior productive behavior of the animals and does not have a negative influence on the morphometry of the gastrointestinal organs of fattening pigs.
