Productos forestales no maderables de origen vegetal de la parroquia Valladolid, cantón Palanda, provincia de Zamora Chinchipe
Abstract:
In the forests of Ecuador there is a diversity of plant species that provide Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFP) and represent social and economic benefits to the communities. This research was carried out in the Valladolid parish, with the aim of knowing the traditional and current use of products other than wood. 242 surveys were applied to men and women considering three age groups. The perception of the local population about the traditional knowledge and use of the species was obtained and the ethnobotanical parameters were calculated: value of use, frequency of use and significant value of use. The use of 70 species of 62 genera and 54 families is reported, with trees being the predominant growth habit, they collect only the useful parts of the plant such as leaves, fruits, bark, latex, to satisfy self-consumption needs. Heliocarpus americanus has higher use value and is used as food and beverages, handicrafts, forage, human medicine, veterinary medicine and in living fences; the category with the highest frequency of use is human medicine, followed by use for food and beverages. The species with the highest level of significant use are: Piper aduncum, Croton lechleri, Erythrina edulis and Ilex guayusa. Knowledge of the uses of the species by men (48) and women (50) is slightly higher in women, because they are in charge of taking care of their families. It is evident that the adults still know and use the plants, but there is a loss of knowledge in the juvenile population.
