Profile of studens entering the career of obstetricia Universidad Central del Ecuador


Abstract:

The sociodemographic factors and the characteristics with which the students enter to a university career, constitutes a determinant that influences the permanence in the career and the culmination of it; dropout occurs in six out of ten students, among the factors related to dropping out are: average obtained in high school, secondary institution of origin, admission to a career that does not correspond to the student’s life project, income and family support, place of residence, parental education, employment status, marital status, sex and motherhood; to obtain this information, a cross-sectional study was carried out by applying surveys to students who attended pre-university in the academic period March-September 2019. For the analysis, descriptive, bivariate, multivariate and linear regression methods were used. Against the characteristics found in the profile of students' admission, where several aspects that may influence the decision to continue or not with university training were evidence, it is essential to establish support strategies for guaranteeing in comprehensive manner the student’s well-being and inclination towards the competences of the profession, whose main objective is the good academic performance that will eventually reduce the dropout figures.
