Propagation of multipurpose legume golden shower (Cassia fistula L.) through seeds
Abstract:
The golden shower (Cassia fistula) is multipurpose, ornamental and agroforestry specie. The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of pregerminative treatments on the emergence of golden shower seeds and the morphological characteristic of the seedlings. Nine pregerminative treatments were evaluated: Control (T0), soaking in water at 26ºC during 12 h (T1) and 24 h (T2), soaking in water at 60ºC by 12 h (T3) and 24 h (T4), soaking in sugar cane vinegar (acetic acid at 5%) at 26ºC by 5 min (T5) and 10 min (T6), and vinegar at 60ºC by 5 min (T7) and 10 min (T8). There were differences among pregerminative treatments but only on the emergence percentage (EP). The seedlings showed homogeneous and fast growth. It is concluded that soaking in vinegar at 26ºC by 10 min (T8) was the more appropriated treatment for increasing the emergency (EP: 77.6%).
