Proposal of a Model for the Accreditation of Competencies using Blockchain Technology


Abstract:

Nowadays, individuals have the possibility of being trained through formal and non-formal educational systems according to their needs. The educational sector needs to improve its accreditation systems by integrating-in format and infrastructure-skills and knowledge in which each individual has been trained throughout their lives. Digital badges are an alternative to represent skills or knowledge an individual has earned. This work describes a proposal to solve this social and academic challenge using blockchain technology and semantic web to solve problems of interoperability, traceability, and transfer. The proposed model integrates people, processes, and entities to create an ecosystem of competencies and skills acquired in open education. The use of digital badges for the recognition of competencies outside the scope of the issuing institution is proposed, taking advantage of the portability of open credential technology.
