Análisis del discurso mural estudio de caso : Universidad Politécnica Salesiana, Sede Quito

Abstract:

This academic article is based on the analysis of the semiotics of the murals located at the Universidad Politécnica Salesiana, Quito headquarters, on the El Girón and El Sur campuses. With the application of the cultural consumption theory of Néstor Canclini, the symbolic, linguistic and perceptual aspects of the murals have been examined. For this research, the interpretive paradigm has been used, which allows us to know the interaction that exists between the murals and the university community. In addition, this work allows us to know the history of Ecuadorian and Latin American muralism, and what were their contributions in theoretical and social terms in the region. Art is currently considered a form of communication and that is why murals are a tool for social and political denunciation especially of Latin American societies, such is the case of the murals of the Salesian Polytechnic University where great artists of the 20th century, such as Pavel Égüez and Fabián Álvarez seek to transmit the political and social reality of the country and the world. The mural "A la Resistencia" is a representation of the indigenous movements of that time and their struggle, and the mural "Transferencia" has a strong attachment to nature and caring for the planet.
