Protected horticulture of Ecuador: Past, present and future perspectives

Abstract:

This chapter describes the geographical position of Ecuador, characterizes the population and climatology, and takes into account the current crops grown in each region of the country. In order to determine the degree of agricultural activity, we will define the land tenure, the historical technological development of the cultivation systems, the destination and profitability of the products obtained, and the environmental impact caused. The current agricultural status of Ecuador will be analyzed following the sustainable development goals (Agenda 2030) established by the United Finally, considering the huge possibilities that protected agriculture, and its high level of development especially in the "Sierra" area, offer, we will discuss, in depth, its origin, current status and future perspectives.
