Protection System design to improve reliability of an isolated distribution grid with hybrid generation
Abstract:
The present work consists in analysing an electric power system with hybrid wind-diesel generation, an improvement over the generation configuration is proposed in order to establish new stability parameters for the system. Seven different dispatch configurations were presented and analysed; four of exclusively thermal generation and three of mixed thermal-wind generation. For each case, a study of power flow, load distribution, harmonics and short circuit was made, leading to a selection of protection equipment and its coordination. Finally, steady-state stability is performed over maximum, average and minimum demand; as well as transient stability analysis over possible contingencies, leading to a stable system.
