Protocol for distraction osteogenesis of the medial facial third in syndromic patients

Abstract:

Background: Distraction osteogenesis of the medial facial third is the best choice for treatment of severe middle third hypoplasia, palpebral incompetence and resolution of obstructive apnea. Objectives: Demonstrate the treatment protocol for resolution of the abovementioned problems and to obtain facial symmetry in syndromic patients presenting a retruded/hypoplastic middle third. Demonstrate the possible complications and their resolution. Compare internal and external distractors. Methods: Eight patients treated from 2016 to 2018 with middle third external distractors, using the protocol stablished by the Servicio de Cirugía Plástica del Hospital de Pediatría SAMIC Juan P. Garrahan, Buenos Aires (Argentina), will be presented.
