QUALITY MODEL TO EVALUATE WEB-BASED ENTERPRISE COLLABORATION SYSTEMS ARCHITECTURES
Abstract:
Usually, when developing systems, architecture is designed taking into account only the functional requirements it has to fulfill. However, there are quality characteristics that must be met and can be resolved at this stage. It is not clear which characteristics are the most important for each application domain, nor is clear how they can be met through their architectural design. The purpose of this article is to identify the architectural quality characteristics, in terms of architecture, that a web-based Enterprise Collaboration System (ECS) must have. The architectural evaluation method used was the Architecture Tradeoff Analysis Method (ATAM) adapting a quality model proposed by Ortega et al.(2000). This research also included the identification and justification of the quality characteristics selected for this domain. The main result was the Ortega’s model instantiated and the essential quality characteristics obtained for the domain ECS. They are: Maintainability, Reliability and Efficiency, which can be used as the reference framework for future architectural decisions in the corresponding domain.
