Quantum limit of direct-detection receivers using duobinary transmission
Abstract:
In this letter, a rigorous analysis defining the fundamental limits of direct-detection optically preamplified receivers using duobinary transmission is presented, showing that the quantum limit of duobinary can exceed that of IMDD by 0.91 dB. In addition, we show through simulation that a practical duobinary implementation can closely approach such performance.
