RAISED FIELDS AND DETENTION PONDS IN ECUADOR: A HOLISTIC VISION FROM THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL PAST TO THE SOCIOENVIERONMENTAL PRESENT
Abstract:
In this article we will examine the results of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research carried out on ridged-fields and detention-ponds systems in the Ecuadorian coast. Data offered on the periods of their construction, function, traditional practices about their use, and present day perspective about these systems by the communities that occupy the area is reviewed. Participative intervention reveals both the difficulties as well as the possibilities of understanding between scientific and local knowledge.
