RESEARCH AND ITS CONTRIBUTION TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF ECUADORIAN SOCIETY: UNIANDES-ECUADOR’S PERSPECTIVE

Abstract:

There is no doubt that higher education institutions play an important role in the economic and social development of today’s society. Based on these considerations, this research work aims to put forward a methodology to evaluate the contribution of scientific research at UNIANDES to the economic and social development of the communities in its area of influence. For the proposal of the methodology, relevant documents related to the research process at UNIANDES were analyzed, the expert method was applied and social and governmental actors were interviewed. As a result, the academic domains of the institu-tion are defined, the main indicators for the evaluation of the economic and social impact of research are identified, and the contribution of UNIANDES to the development of the Ecuadorian society is evaluated.
