Radar Probability of Detection in Multipath Environments
Abstract:
In this paper, we derive new analytical expressions for the probability of detection for non-fluctuating (Swerling 0) and fluctuating (Swerling 1) targets when more than one specular reflection occurs. These results allow us to investigate the influence of the multipath and compare it to the known results in the literature for free space and single reflection cases. Different from the conventional approach, our novel expressions allow the estimation of the probability of detection for specific targets in a multipath scenario, along with a specular reflection search algorithm. The new derived expressions allow inferring that the constructive effect of the specular reflections is advantageous in the detection of targets with lower SNR, improving the detection capability.
