Re-examining the taylor impact test using a finite-element-based inverse problem methodology
Abstract:
Taylor anvil tests are used to determine constitutive parameters for Ti-6AI-4V. An inverse approach methodology based on the finite element method is proposed to assess, by using a least-squares optimization scheme, the constitutive parameters needed to insure that the numerical simulation best matches the experimentally determined deformed shape. Of particular interest is the investigation of strain-rate sensitivity at rates greater than 10,000/s, i.e., beyond those easily achieved with a split-Hopkinson pressure bar.
