Recién nacidos con VIH adquirido por trasmisión vertical en el hospital general docente Ambato
Abstract:
Introduction: The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) can be transmitted to newborns by vertical transmission through the mother, so health systems are working to develop adequate methods to prevent vertical transmission in newborns. The objective of this study is to evaluate the incidence of HIV acquired by vertical transmission in newborns treated at the Hospital General Docente Ambato. Methodology: A study with a retrospective and descriptive design was carried out in 17 newborns with HIV acquired by vertical transmission during the period April-September 2019. Results: From the review of medical records, it is observed that of the total newborns with HIV acquired by transmission vertical, 53% belong to the male gender and 47% to the female gender. 41% of neonates were born preterm/mild preterm at 35 to 36 weeks; 35% were term between 37 and 41 weeks and the remaining 24% were premature …
