Reconfigurable Antenna Proposal Based on Origami Techniques

Abstract:

Devices used in communication systems often require reconfigurable operating parameters, such as their frequency of operation. To meet this condition, these devices must be equipped with an antenna, which is adapted to each of the needs presented by the system. Due to this, the concepts of antennas and origami techniques have been united for the development of singular structures that can be used in the design of antennas that have the attribute of being reconfigurable. The origami technique offers features, such as flexibility and portability, in this article we propose a novel planar antenna design that sits on a paper origami structure, its shape resembles a pentagonal tower, which has a functionality similar to a spring. This antenna operates at frequencies of 4.7 and 6 GHz located in the SHF band, with different gain values only by modifying the height of the antenna. It is oriented to applications of sensor networks, emergency communications, defense applications, communications in remote regions, and humanitarian projects in developing countries.
