Reflections on agricultural development and socio-productive transformations in cuba, the 90’s
Abstract:
The theme proposed for reflection: Sustainable agriculture and the creation of the Basic Units of Cooperative Production (UBPC) represent novel and somely complex issues, due to the controversy that exists around a number of questions, not yet resolved on the subject. This two-section work seeks to present some ideas in its first part to argue the need for new agricultural development alternatives, where sustainable agriculture could be a possible option; as well as definitions that already exist of this concept, including the criteria of Cuban scientists on the subject. The second part concerns the Cuban case, in terms of attempts to design and implement an agricultural policy, in correspondence with the conditions faced by the country, and its future socio-economic model, its agricultural policy, which among its main objectives are manifested: To replace the prevailing trend since the early years of the Revolution, of a high mechanization and chemization of agricultural productions, for which it could be a more logical and ecological situation, trying to use all the scientific potential prepared in the country.
