Reggaeton music videos on YouTube. Policies on gender stereotypes


Abstract:

The video clips of the different music genres have the objective of visually representing a song, as well as promoting and inducing the consumption of this product among the public. The Internet and social networks have facilitated the transmission of this type of audiovisual products, allowing them to reach millions of people. The study analyzes the presence of gender stereotypes in reggaeton music videos. In addition, it analyzes the policies of the YouTube social network regarding sexual content, and determines whether they are respected or violated. The methodology is qualitative through content analysis, the sample corresponds to six popular video clips on the social network during 2019. It is determined that the videos analyzed infringe the policies of the social network and that these are also not enough to avoid gender stereotypes.
