Rehabilitación oral de un paciente con restitución de dimensión vertical y plano de oclusión

Abstract:

In the past, teeth were perceived as singular, independent elements. Today, however, it is known that they are actually components of the larger stomatognathic system, which consists of the mouth, jaw and other closely related bodily structures. Currently, complete dentistry has the important function of repairing and maintaining the stomatognathic system of each patient in the best condition. For this, one key issue to address is the balance of the dental occlusion, which can only be obtained by proper diagnoses and treatment designed for the needs of each specific patient. The present is a case report of an 82-year-old man, who came to the dental clinic suffering for some disorders he had been experiencing for some time. After reviewing the patient`s complete clinical history, we came to a final diagnosis. Upon reviewing the treatment option with the patient, we concluded to perform a complete oral rehabilitation. This included the use of removable partial dentures in addition to composite veneers to restore lost vertical dimension, resulting in an organic, stable and functional occlusion and restoring his lost esthetic. For each procedure, all steps were followed and resulted in the successful return of not only esthetic aspects, but also functionality, oral health, and the patient´s self-confidence. Finally the patient was given instructions for proper hygiene and maintenance of the dentures and veneers in order to ensure continued oral health.
