Abstract:

Introduction: In 1974, Dr. Butterworth already describes malnutrition produced in hospitals and iatrogenic malnutrition due to the fact that patients are not well fed, food intakes are suppressed for the performing of diagnostic tests, lack of registry of weight and height upon admission or by the little knowledge of doctors about the nutritional requirements of patients. (Santana, 2005) General objective: To evaluate the nutritional status of patients at hospital admissions in the Internal Medicine Division and Gastroenterology at a public hospital in the city of Quito using a tool for nutritional screening called Malnutrition Screening Tool (MST) in the period from May to July 2016.
